Normans Attack!
While
I was safe at work the menacing senegal, known as Norman, stalked his
meek, unsuspecting prey (Cooper Bird). We came home not knowing anything
out of the ordinary had transpired that day. No one was screeching,
Norman and Cooper Bird both were in their homes. It took us about 5
minutes to notice the splatter of blood on the wall. There was quite
a large area of splattering (must have come from him shaking his head)
and several tiny pools of it on the table that holds his cage.
Norman had struck!
Norman had managed
to escape his home, open the door into Coopers and climb in. They must
have fought and in the end Cooper came out with a tear in the top section
of his beak. The bleeding area had clotted by the time we found him.
His beak was bruised, his pride was injured and he was a little worse
for the wear.
It of course happened
on a holiday weekend, so it was two days before he was able to be seen
by our local vet. Our vet chose not to tamper with the wound so as to
not cause it to re-open and bleed again. She suggest a soft food diet
and for us to watch him closely to ensure he ate and drank. On our way
home I stopped and got a couple jars of baby food and a fresh spray
of millet for him. I managed to get him to consume tiny bits of the
baby food and a small piece of soft bread. About two days into the soft
food I gave him the millet spray and he chowed down on it.
It’s been about
a month since that incident and Cooper Bird is now back on his normal
diet, the torn portion of his beak has peeled away and from what we
can tell he should be just fine.
